The Climb

Why climb Mount Kilimanjaro?
Simple – Hope & Cope wants to take cancer survivors and their supporters to the top of the world AND to show the world that while cancer may change you, it does not define you. We are going half-way around the world to kick cancer and we want YOU on our team.

The Mountain

At 19,340 ft. Mount Kilimanjaro towers majestically over the African savanna. It is the highest free-standing mountain in the world, and as one of the coveted “Seven Summits”, is the highest mountain on the African continent.

The Route

We will be taking the Kili 360 Northern Circuit route. This rarely trekked trail on the northern slope of the mountain offers spectacular views and its longer duration (9-10 days), allows climbers to acclimatize easier to the higher altitude. This makes the summit easier and more rewarding.

You will climb an average of 4-6 hours a day, except for the last day, when the push to the summit will take 9-11 hours.

The Outfitter - Tusker Trail

GOPR0127.JPG

Tusker Trail is one of the most respected names in the business, with 41 years of experience leading adventure travel expeditions throughout Africa. Their focus on climber safety means that 98% of climbers reach the top of the mountain. It also means that you can rest easy, knowing that should anything happen, you will be cared for by medically trained guides.

  • Tusker hires and trains its own highly skilled guides. Each year, guides are required to take and pass a physician approved high altitude medical training course.
  • Guides carry oxygen and perform medical checks twice daily
  • Tusker uses a higher ratio of guides and porters than other outfitters, ensuring that you are safe and well supported.
  • Tusker uses the best quality equipment
  • Porters carry most of your gear
  • The food is excellent – cooks are trained by chefs with the American Culinary Institute and most special diets can be accommodated (as long as notice is given in advance)
